You’re relinquishing so much to the audience, the environment you’re in, and also just hoping that you got yourself.
A really good [comedy song] is something that actually speaks to what you care about and its funny and you enjoy playing it. And that’s something that is not easily accessible all the time, because it runs the line of being preachy, and you never want to do that.
You kind of get used to going up on stage so much that if I fuckin’ bomb, then I'll just know not to do that next time, but its also my biggest fear, bombing on stage. And then, I think a way to keep yourself sane, when you’re internalizing all this stuff in the world, you get excited when something clicks for you – the outlet is the art, as well. So, once you write something, you realize ‘oh that's what I did with that thing.'
I know there are things I want to say about the world, but this is the way I like to say it, because it feels the most fun and real and effective, to me. ... It combines so many of the things that I love, being funny and silly and being free with music, you know. You can do whatever you want!
